I just turned down an amazing job opportunity across the country a few weeks ago.
I love my family. I do. And I knew that when we first had plans on starting a family that everything else would be placed on the back burner. Nevertheless I’m bummed out. When I first joined this organization, it was because of the unimaginable opportunities that came with it. If you can think of a position, it probably exists. And if it doesn’t exists, it can likely be created. I’ve been in this country for close to 25 years and sadly have only seen just a small fraction of it. It would be AMAZING to be able to see more of this country and to be able to grow my resume. Any other working mamas out there feel that they are “giving up” a part of themselves for their family?

Before I start listing out what I thought pregnancy would be like and the realities of it, please note that I had a fairly easy pregnancy and this is by no means representative of the general population. Every pregnancy is different! No matter how easy or how hard your pregnancy is, pregnancy is a blessing and a gift!
WHAT I THOUGHT PREGNANCY WOULD BE LIKE
THE REALITY
Like I said before, every pregnancy is different and just because the above happened to me, doesn’t mean it’ll happen to you! Pregnancy is amazing no matter what you go through because in the end, you get the best gift of all! I would love to hear about your pregnancy journey! I'm currently in week 39 of my first pregnancy. I can’t complain, as I've had it pretty good so far. I haven't had much morning sickness or pregnancy symptoms at that. The worst I've had was sore gums the first couple of weeks, dry heaving and break outs in the first trimester, dry skin and hair throughout, linea nigra, and stretch marks. I've been walking fine and was exercising up until the last 2 months with no pain or complications.
Because of this, I feel so guilty for taking time off work. Drew tells me that I have to put the baby first and that work will always be there. I agree; however, it's not like I'm stressed at work. I currently work a desk job as an accommodation for being pregnant. Since telling my employer of my pregnancy after the first trimester, I've been having to prove myself, that I'm not useless or disabled just because I'm pregnant. At this point in the pregnancy, I'm starting to feel more tired and more sore after sitting or laying down. I'm at the point where I feel like I should be starting to pack up at work and get ready to stay at home and wait for the baby to arrive but seeing to how I'm not having complications like other pregnant women have, I can't bring myself to ask for time off. As I approach my due date, it is uncertain whether I will continue working up until the baby arrives or stop working on my due date, regardless of whether the baby is here yet. I just can't wait for the baby to arrive! Anyone else feel as guilty as I do? Feel free to share when you went off work and what your reasoning was! This site contains affiliate links to products. I may receive a commission for purchases made through these links. Here is a list of Baby Registries in the Lower Mainland that I looked at and the perks that come with registering (in alphabetical order): Amazon.ca - 10% completion discount and 15% for Amazon Prime members. Amazon Prime members also receive a free gift Babies R Us - 10% completion discount and 15% for RClub members, gift bag, $25 coupon (next purchase of $75 or more) Buy Buy Baby - 10% completion discount, gift bag, $25 gift card Hudson’s Bay - No perks Indigo Chapter's - 20% completion discount (minimum $50 in purchases), memory book Lussobaby - 10% back in store credit MyRegistry.com - No perks Snuggle Bugz - 10% completion discount, 5% back in store credit (purchases of $500-$4000) TJ’s the Kiddies Store - No perks Walmart - No perks West Coast Kids - No perks NOTE: Exclusions may apply. Snuggle Bugz recently had a promotion where if you registered with them, you receive a free Matchstick Monkey and a $25 coupon, valid in store only (no minimum spend). I don’t know whether this was a once in a lifetime offer or whether Snuggle Bugz regularly has promotions like this one but it was a great deal! I decided to go with MyRegistry.com because I found that not one store had everything that I wanted. MyRegistry.com gave me the flexibility of adding items from different sites. Even if someone buys an item off your Registry but not from the store/link that you suggested, they can still “tick” it off so that others don’t buy the same item. It also states that they compare the prices but I cannot attest to that. MyRegistry.com also gave me the benefit of generating a "Thank You List" with all the items purchased and who purchased them so it was easier for me to keep track and send out thank you cards. MyRegistry.com also had the option of loading your registry from different sites so that you can benefit from the perks of those stores as shown above; however, this did not work well for my purposes, so I just added them individually. If you know of any other places with perks, let me know and I’ll add to the list! This post is simply my opinion and no compensation is being received if you register with any of the above sites/stores. |
